A fatal shooting occurred at a rave in the northern Swiss canton of Aargau early Sunday, resulting in one fatality and five injuries, as reported by local authorities and media outlets. The police are currently searching for a suspect and have not yet determined the motives or exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to cantonal police, a 22-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while four men and one woman, aged between 24 and 27, were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. All the victims are Swiss residents, and their identities have not been disclosed to adhere to privacy regulations.
The shooting took place during the Aarau Rave VOL. 7 event at the Schachen horse racing track in the canton’s capital, Aarau, located 46 kilometers west of Zurich. Emergency services, including police, firefighters, and ambulances, were deployed to the area, and a manhunt for the perpetrator is currently underway.
Eyewitnesses initially mistook the gunshots for fireworks until a call for everyone to take cover was heard. Following the incident, remaining rave attendees were escorted to a nearby gym by the police. Authorities have urged any individuals with photos or videos of the shooting to come forward and assist in the investigation.
The Aargau Racing Club, which manages the venue, expressed deep sympathy for the victims and their families, commending the emergency response teams for their professionalism and dedication. Swiss DJ Tekibo, who performed at the event, expressed sorrow over the tragic incident, stating that such violence has no place in the atmosphere of freedom and safety that techno raves aim to provide.
Aarau, a city with a population of 22,300, is situated approximately 30 kilometers south of the German border. The community was left shaken by the shooting as authorities continue their efforts to locate the perpetrator and bring clarity to the unsettling events that transpired.
