Bodycam footage has captured the moment Robert Bush was detained on an airplane during a significant investigation into his funeral home. The arrest occurred on March 10, 2024, shortly after the discovery of over 30 bodies at the Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull. The police bodycam footage, released by Humberside Police, shows Bush sitting on an American Airlines flight around 2:30 pm as officers boarded the plane.
In the video, as police officers walk down the aisle of the crowded plane just landed at London Heathrow, a flight attendant can be heard instructing passengers to remain seated. The leading officer then stops at a row of seats and asks Bush to stand up and accompany them outside, to which Bush, visibly surprised, complies after retrieving his belongings from the overhead locker.
Bush, aged 48, formerly residing in Kirk Ella but recently in East Busk Lane, Otley, West Yorkshire, was the director of Legacy Independent Funeral Directors. He was informed of his arrest on suspicion of various charges including the prevention of a lawful burial, fraud by false representation, and fraud by abuse of position. This information was reported by Hull Live after Bush pleaded guilty to all charges at Hull Crown Court.
Previously, Bush had denied 30 charges related to preventing decent burials and one theft charge from charities at a plea hearing. However, he admitted to 36 fraud-related offenses. Following the change in plea, Bush’s sentencing hearing is anticipated to take place in July, as the scheduled eight-week trial for October has been canceled.
