Olly Murs, the 41-year-old singer and radio presenter, found himself in tears multiple times during his arduous Soccer Aid charity challenge, describing himself as ‘officially broken’. The challenge involves running, cycling, and rowing a total of 400km between Manchester and London to raise funds for Unicef, a children’s charity.
During the second day of the challenge, Olly received a comforting hug from his comedian friend Alex Brooker. Despite the support, Olly appeared visibly distressed, grimacing and crying as the demanding trial progressed. He endured physical discomfort, wincing while receiving a much-needed massage.
Reflecting on his experience, Olly shared, “This was me after Day 2 yesterday and honestly… ‘Relentless’ was the perfect name for it: 60km bike, 11km run, 40km bike, then an 8km row to finish… I can’t lie… this challenge officially broke me yesterday but I’m still standing and I’m not giving up. Thank you so much for every donation and message so far… it honestly keeps me moving when the legs want to stop.”
The emotional toll heightened when Olly received a supportive voice message from his wife, Amelia. She expressed pride in his efforts, emphasizing the significance of his contributions to Unicef. The couple, parents to two young children, have been closely following Olly’s progress and cheering him on.
Olly embarked on the challenging journey on Monday, starting from Manchester’s Old Trafford and tackling varying terrains each day. On Tuesday, he traversed 100km through Derbyshire’s Peak District, navigating scenic routes like Hope Valley and Tissington Trail without prior knowledge of the day’s route.
Despite visible signs of exhaustion, Olly remains determined to complete the charity challenge, drawing support from friends and loved ones along the way.
