A theme park incident in north-west Belgium left five children and two adults injured, as confirmed by local police. The mishap occurred at Boudewijn Seapark in Bruges on Tuesday morning, prompting emergency services to swiftly respond. The injured individuals suffered “minor” injuries, such as fractures and back pain, and were promptly transported to AZ Sint-Lucas and AZ Sint-Jan hospitals in Bruges.
Bruges local police reassured families in a Facebook post that all affected individuals are accompanied by their relatives and are safe. The malfunction happened during the operation of the Spring Ride, an attraction that ascends seven meters in the air before descending rapidly. The malfunction occurred while the ride was at a height of approximately four meters, with the cause of the incident currently under investigation.
The public prosecutor’s office, along with Belgium’s Federal Public Service, is on-site to probe the incident further. The park, known for its 20 outdoor attractions including the Orca Ride roller coaster and the Sancta Maria pirate ship, as well as 10 indoor attractions and extensive playgrounds, is cooperating with the authorities during the investigation.
In a separate incident at a fair in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a Ferris wheel collapse resulted in at least 10 people sustaining critical injuries. The incident at the Bhainsaha Mela fair in Khadda was captured in footage showing the ride tipping sideways before collapsing due to support post failure. Approximately 80 individuals were on the Ferris wheel at the time, leading to at least 30 injuries, according to the police.
