“Trump Announces US Military ‘Blockade’ of Strait of Hormuz”

Date:

President Donald Trump has announced that the US military will initiate a ‘blockade’ of the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that the US will take control of the situation in the region.

Following unsuccessful peace talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan, tension has resurfaced as President Trump revealed plans for the US Navy to enforce a blockade on ships entering or leaving the Strait of Hormuz, starting soon.

While mentioning the involvement of “other countries” in the blockade, Trump did not disclose specific details. However, it was reported that the UK would not be part of the blockade.

A government spokesperson emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to support the global economy and domestic living standards, stating that tolls should not be imposed on the passage.

The spokesperson added that efforts are underway to collaborate with France and other allies to safeguard freedom of navigation in the region.

Trump expressed satisfaction with the Islamabad negotiation meeting, noting progress on various points except for the contentious issue of nuclear weapons. He reiterated his stance that Iran should not possess or expand its nuclear capabilities.

The ongoing blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for 20% of the world’s oil trade, has led to a surge in fuel prices globally due to Iran’s actions since the conflict began on February 28.

In response to Iran’s failure to open the Strait as promised, Trump condemned the situation and announced the immediate commencement of the US Navy’s blockade operation to regulate ship movements in the area.

Over the weekend, amid negotiation pauses, several ships, including military vessels tasked with clearing sea mines laid by Iran, managed to navigate the Strait.

Trump reiterated his tough stance, stating that any ship paying an ‘illegal toll’ to Iran would not be granted safe passage, and the US military would take action against any resistance from Iranian or peaceful vessels.

He emphasized that Iran needed to resolve the situation to avoid further consequences, asserting that the US military was prepared to address any threats posed by Iran.

Trump underscored his belief that Iran was on the losing side of the conflict, claiming significant damage to Iran’s military assets and expressing readiness to take further action if necessary.
