King Charles is set to deliver his third King’s Speech in May, as officially announced. The monarch will be front and center during the State Opening of Parliament on May 13, where the Government’s legislative priorities will be outlined. The current Parliamentary session is anticipated to conclude next month, according to Commons leader Sir Alan Campbell.

It is expected that Parliament will adjourn during the week of April 27, creating a time crunch for bills in progress in either the Commons or the House of Lords. Sir Alan stated, “The State Opening of Parliament is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13, 2026. As is customary, the current session of Parliament will be prorogued before the King’s Speech, with this period utilized for logistical and security preparations for the official event. The specific prorogation date will be announced in due course.”

Less than a week after the crucial May local elections, the King’s Speech will take place. This event, rich in tradition, holds significant importance in the Parliamentary calendar and sets the stage for the upcoming session. The ceremonial occasion unites the monarch, the House of Commons, and the House of Lords, with many customs tracing back centuries.
