Iran has initiated a series of cyber assaults on the United States shortly after President Donald Trump issued a threat to eradicate the civilization of the country. This development coincides with the impending expiration of the US president’s ultimatum to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has reported that hackers linked to Iran are engaging in exploitation activities targeting critical systems in the US. Specifically, advanced persistent threat groups are targeting internet-connected industrial systems crucial for running essential services.
These attackers are exploiting devices like programmable controllers, commonly used in operating factories, energy systems, and other vital infrastructure. Some incidents have already caused disruptions and financial losses, with the hackers manipulating data and control displays to interfere with system operations, raising concerns about the potential impact on crucial services.
US organizations have been advised to review their networks to mitigate the risk of compromise. The agency had previously identified similar activities by CyberAv3ngers, a group associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Cyber Electronic Command (CEC).

Organizations in the US are urged to promptly review the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) and indicators of compromise (IOCs) outlined in the advisory to detect any ongoing or historical malicious activities on their networks. Implementing the recommended mitigations is crucial to reducing the risk of compromise.
These cyber attacks follow President Trump’s warning that failure by Iran to comply with his demand to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could lead to severe consequences, with calls for his removal from office intensifying. Former White House director Anthony Scaramucci has urged for Trump’s immediate ousting, citing concerns over his calls for potential nuclear strikes.
President Trump has set a deadline of 8 pm ET today (1 am Wednesday UK time) for the Iranian regime to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
