EE has unveiled an enhanced version of its Scam Guard service to combat the rising threat of scams, which continue to target unsuspecting individuals. Recent data reveals a daily loss of millions of pounds in the UK due to cybercriminals employing various tactics to deceive people into revealing sensitive information.
The upgraded Scam Guard is now accessible to all EE pay-monthly mobile customers for a monthly fee of £2. Despite the additional cost, EE assures subscribers that the service offers significantly improved protection.
Since its initial launch in 2024, Scam Guard has successfully thwarted 169 million scam and spam attempts. With the latest version, EE anticipates doubling the prevention of scams over the next year.
The core of the new Scam Guard is the AI Triple-Lock Protection, a set of digital security features powered by Norton’s Genie AI engine to ensure customer safety. These features include Safe Email, which delivers proactive scam protection for email inboxes round the clock. Safe SMS utilizes advanced AI to identify complex scams in text messages, providing customers with real-time protection. Additionally, Safe Web safeguards customers from online scams while shopping or browsing by blocking malicious sites preemptively.
The upgraded Scam Guard also introduces Scam Assistant, enabling customers to upload screenshots of suspicious texts, emails, websites, social media messages, or QR codes for instant feedback on their safety. Moreover, Social Media Monitoring and Dark Web Monitoring monitor a customer’s online presence for any questionable activity and promptly notify them to take necessary action.
Malcolm Cubitt, EE’s Director of Product, Mobile, emphasized the importance of staying vigilant against evolving fraud threats. He highlighted EE’s commitment to enhancing cybersecurity measures and supporting customers by constantly innovating new protection strategies. Cubitt emphasized EE’s dedication to combatting scams effectively with the enhanced Scam Guard service.
