Date:

A unit at a children’s hospital in Sweden had to be cleared out following an unknown outbreak that affected 16 staff members, as per reports. Surgical personnel at Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital in Gothenburg suddenly fell ill, displaying symptoms akin to an allergic response.

Taru Kontio, a safety officer from the Swedish Healthcare Association, disclosed to a local publication that 16 individuals in a surgical team experienced issues such as runny nose, itchy eyes, severe headaches, itchy scalp, eczema, fever, cough, hoarseness, and nasal congestion.

Efforts are underway to contain the outbreak and pinpoint its origin, leading to the evacuation of the unit. Surgeries have been relocated within the hospital for the time being as the affected area undergoes cleaning, with samples set to be collected for testing.

While Jonas Nordin, the regional property manager for Västra Götaland, acknowledged the situation, the exact cause remains unidentified.
