Prince Albert authorities reported the discovery of human remains on Thursday while searching for a missing teenager who vanished in June. The search efforts, involving the city’s public works, fire departments, and Prince Albert Grand Council Search and Rescue, led to the finding of the body in the vicinity of the 300 block of 40th Street East, according to a police statement.
A postmortem examination is set for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the individual and determine the circumstances and cause of death. The mother of the missing teenager, Peyton Flett, named Danica Moore, was informed by the police that they suspect the body belongs to her daughter but declined to provide additional comments.
The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, along with the police major crimes and forensic identification units, are collaborating on an ongoing investigation into the suspicious death, as mentioned in the police announcement.
Earlier, a news conference was held with police, the Prince Albert Grand Council, Shoal Lake Cree Nation, and Flett’s parents appealing to the public for any information that might aid in locating her. Authorities noted Flett was last seen on June 16 or 17 near Marquis Road and Central Avenue close to the Northern Lights Casino.
Police are actively investigating the wooded area near 40th Street, where the remains were found, and have advised that traffic restrictions will remain in place while urging the public to steer clear of the location. Updates will be shared as more information becomes accessible.
