Users of various devices, including Samsung models, are facing screen flickering issues while using the Gmail app, causing frustration among affected individuals. Complaints about disappearing text and blank white boxes instead of messages have surfaced on social media platforms and Google’s support forums.
One user, Jeremiah, expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, specifically mentioning the problem on folding phones like the Samsung Fold. The problem seems to be related to Android System WebView, a crucial component allowing apps to display web content within the application itself.
Google’s product expert, Kimiya Kitani, acknowledged the problem affecting some devices, particularly Samsung tablets, and stated that Google is aware of the issue. While the exact number of affected users remains uncertain, reports indicate that Samsung foldables and certain Galaxy tablets are among the most impacted devices.
A temporary workaround suggested by Kitani involves rotating the device to alleviate the flickering issue. By opening emails in portrait mode, rotating to landscape mode until the screen displays correctly, and then switching back to portrait mode, users may find relief while awaiting a permanent solution from Google.
