Zanzibar: The New Affordable Beach Party Hotspot

A popular holiday destination is being compared to Magaluf due to its affordable £1 beers and warm climate reaching 30°C in May, along with pristine white sandy beaches.

Zanzibar, located near Tanzania, is emerging as a new favorite among tourists seeking value for money sunny getaways. The island boasts picturesque beaches and quaint towns, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious travelers.

Recent statistics show a 4.9% increase in tourist arrivals to the island, indicating a growing interest in Zanzibar. Visitors often choose to stay in Stone Town, renowned for its historic charm and architectural beauty, featuring attractions like the Old Fort and Sultan’s Palace Museum.

While not as lively as Magaluf, Stone Town offers beach parties and some nightlife options. Nungwi in the northern part of the island is gaining popularity, especially among backpackers, hosting events like Full Moon Parties near accommodations. The area is known for its tranquil beaches where turtles can be spotted swimming close to shore, creating a serene ambiance reminiscent of a quieter Ibiza.

The island’s climate, with over 12 hours of sunshine daily even in winter, attracts British tourists looking for a warm escape. High temperatures reaching 33°C from January to April make Zanzibar an ideal destination for winter sun holidays.

The crystal-clear waters around Zanzibar offer ideal conditions for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Exploring the vibrant coral reefs and the possibility of encountering dolphins make for unforgettable aquatic experiences.

Despite the longer flight duration, affordable travel deals are available. Flights to Tanzania start from £261 one-way in June, with options like Kenya Airways or Turkish Airlines via Istanbul en route to Zanzibar. The journey typically takes around 14 hours.

Accommodation choices on the island cater to various budgets, with luxury properties also offering affordable rates. For instance, a week at the 5-star Sofia Sea View costs £371 for two in a junior suite in May. Alternatively, TUI BLUE Bahari Zanzibar, a 5-star all-inclusive resort, is priced at £1,157 for a week for two guests and can be booked on Booking.com.
