A tragic incident in Vietnam has claimed the life of a 19-year-old British teenager named Orla Wates. Orla, who was on a gap year in the country, was involved in a fatal motorbike accident on the Ha Giang Loop, a challenging mountain road. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she did not survive.
Orla’s parents, Andy and Henrietta Wates, disclosed the heartbreaking news and shared that Orla’s organs have been donated to save the lives of five critically ill Vietnamese patients. The cause of the accident, in which Orla was a passenger on a motorcycle that lost control, is currently under investigation.

The Việt Đức Friendship Hospital expressed gratitude for the compassionate decision made by Orla’s family to donate her organs, providing hope to organ failure patients in Vietnam. Orla’s liver, two kidneys, and two corneas were successfully transplanted to recipients at the hospital, a leading surgical center in Vietnam.
