The initial phase of the Coachella Festival has wrapped up, and preparations are in place for the upcoming weekend from April 17 to 19. However, attendees have expressed astonishment at the high costs associated with participation.
Admission tickets for the renowned music festival in California’s desert can vary between approximately $800 (£590) and over $2,000 (£1476) per person, depending on the ticket category and additional services. These costs do not cover expenses such as travel, lodging, or food and drinks at the venue. Consequently, many attendees rely on purchasing food and beverages within the festival grounds since bringing outside food is not allowed.
To shed light on the situation, a British festival-goer named Angelina shared her experiences with the exorbitant prices at Coachella, including the cost of purchasing tap water at the event, leaving many people shocked.
In a video, Angelina expressed her curiosity about the pricing of water at Coachella, highlighting the festival’s reputation for having costly food offerings. She proceeded to demonstrate the bustling festival atmosphere before approaching a food truck to buy a bottle of water. The vendor quoted a price of $8 (£5.91), which increased to $8.70 (£6.43) with tax. Angelina humorously mentioned leaving a tip, bringing the total cost to $9 (£6.65).
Afterward, Angelina visited the water bottle refilling station to replenish her bottle with tap water, which she found refreshing and humorously described as “filtered water, fresh from the Atlantic Ocean,” giving it a perfect rating of ten out of ten.
The video sparked discussions among viewers, with some questioning the necessity of paying for water when attendees are allowed to bring their empty bottles for refilling at designated stations for free. Coachella’s guidelines stipulate that certain types of containers are not permitted, but empty Camelbak-style hydration packs and plastic bottles are allowed.
Opinions varied in the comments section, with some believing the price was justified due to the refill options available, while others criticized the high cost of a bottle of water. Despite differing perspectives, the debate around the pricing of essentials at Coachella continues among festival-goers.
