A fatal collision in Brampton claimed the life of a 50-year-old motorcyclist on Wednesday morning, according to authorities. The incident, involving a motorcycle and a transit bus, occurred around 9:26 a.m. near the intersection of Bovaird Drive E. and Great Lakes Drive, as reported by Peel police on social media.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement discovered a man with severe injuries, confirmed Constable Amanda Steenson during a press briefing. Tragically, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries and passed away at the site. Fortunately, the bus driver escaped unscathed from the accident, Steenson added.
Preliminary indications suggest that the bus was heading northbound and making a turn, while the motorcycle was traveling westbound at the time of the collision, Steenson noted. Although the presence of passengers on the bus is uncertain, Steenson highlighted the potential role of speed in the crash, pending further investigation through witness interviews, video analysis, and scene reconstruction.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any relevant information or dashcam recordings that could assist in clarifying the circumstances of the accident. As a precaution, residents in the vicinity are advised to steer clear of road closures affecting both westbound and eastbound traffic between Great Lakes Drive and Highway 410, as stated by the police.
