This was not the only instance of a player facing consequences for misconduct during the tournament. Bob MacIntyre also received a reprimand for code of conduct violations earlier in the week. MacIntyre had displayed inappropriate behavior on the course, including flashing a rude gesture, which led to disciplinary action.
Despite starting the tournament with a solid round, Garcia struggled to maintain momentum and failed to climb the leaderboard in subsequent rounds. His disappointing performance reflected his lack of confidence coming into the event, as he openly expressed dissatisfaction with his game.
