U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, strongly denounced the actions of Israeli settlers who besieged a Palestinian American family’s home in the West Bank, labeling it as a “horrific act of terror.” The settlers, defying Israeli military intervention, have been gathering near the home in Qusra village since Sunday, harassing the occupants and preventing them from leaving despite limited supplies.
Qusai Abu Rida and his teenage son, who were barricaded inside the house for defense, were eventually relocated by the Israeli military to another residence but are still restricted from leaving the area. Loui Ridi, the homeowner speaking from Ohio, recounted months of targeted harassment by settlers before the situation escalated recently.
The escalation prompted Huckabee to call for the removal of “Israeli terrorists” involved in the siege, emphasizing that their actions were aimed at intimidating and harassing the affected family. The Mayor of Qusra reported the evacuation of six village homes, with three hilltop homes besieged by Israeli soldiers.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights condemned the actions forcing residents out of their homes, with Canada and other nations denouncing the expansion of West Bank settlements as illegal under international law. Israeli troops have taken measures to restore order, dismantling illegal outposts and detaining offenders.
The ongoing conflict in Qusra has drawn attention to the rise in settler violence, with accusations against the Israeli government for overlooking attacks.
